SRU Theatre presents holiday classic 'A Christmas Carol'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -Slippery Rock University Theatre will bring Charles Dickens' classic holiday story, "A Christmas Carol" to life at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 30-Dec. 1 and Dec. 3-6. A 2 p.m. matinee is slated for Dec. 2. All performances are in the University Union Multipurpose Room. The production, adapted by David Skeele, SRU professor of theatre, will be a 70-minute, no intermission performance.

Record number of SRU cadets selected for Army study-abroad program
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - When cadets in Slippery Rock University's Army ROTC program received an email from their cadre, Pauline Matthew waited anxiously to open hers. The email revealed the names of cadets selected for the U.S. Army Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency program, a highly sought-after assignment where cadets spend a month during summer studying abroad and learning from foreign military units.

SRU theatre department prepares for first performance of the year
Although the cool temperatures might tempt you to want to do nothing but settle on the couch with a blanket and binge watch Netflix - don't do it. Instead, grab a ticket for the Slippery Rock University Theatre Department's production of "Concord Floral." The production will run Oct. 19-20 and 23-24 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 21 and 25 at 2 p.m. in the University Union Multipurpose Room.

SRU Symphonic Wind Ensemble to perform first concert of the season
Fall has arrived and with it the sounds of rustling leaves, whistling trees and ... flutes, piccolos and oboes? Hey, autumn isn't just for pumpkins and miniature candy anymore, it's also for band concerts and the Slippery Rock University Symphonic Wind Ensemble has you covered. The 50-plus student-musician group will host its first performance of the season at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 16 at Swope Music Hall.

SRU's honors program grows into an Honors College
The Slippery Rock University honors program has been "redesignated" as an Honors College, following the successful completion of a three-year strategic plan for SRU's growing interdisciplinary community. The change to an Honors College follows criteria laid out by the National Collegiate Honors Council.

In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student, experience that enhances the students' employment prospects after graduation. While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.

Local residents graduate from Grove City College
The following local residents were among the 606 students who received degrees during the Commencement exercises at Grove City College on May 20, 2017. Delivering this year's Commencement address was Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence. The Class of 2017 was the largest class in Grove City College 140 year history. In recent years, the Grove City College's four-year graduation rate has climbed to 78 percent, while its six-year graduation rate has reached 83 percent. The average graduation rate in the U.S. is 59 percent.
